Summertime Gladness

Herstorical Tours

Despite what the weather would have you believe, It’s July already so summer is in full swing what with the Euros, Glastonbury, Pride… and an election today! Eek! But through the madness, Herstorical Tours soldiers on! Before we get into what this month has in store, let’s recap June.

June was a quieter month here for us at Herstorical HQ, but no less magical. We welcomed smaller, more intimate groups onto our regular monthly tours and were delighted to bring back Jail Birds of Old London for a private tour for Merit Club members. The Merit Club is a members club for women looking for quality events and connections. We were honoured to host them on an exploration of true crime in the capital. Photo above.

It was also delightful and very serendipitous to mark the summer solstice with my Sinners, Saints and Saviours tour. Here is a quote from one of the attendees all the way from Georgia, USA, who emailed me especially to tell me how much she loved the tour:

“…You did such a wonderful job of holding together and balancing beauty and humour and irreverence while also honouring the harsh realities…”

It’s so lovely to get personal feedback like this. It’s why I do what I do - so thank you!

In general, I found that this month was all about making quality connections with like minded people. I was delighted to connect with both The Lipstick Rebel Productions and watch their fantastic play Hourglass: A Suffragette’s Story this month, along with Sasha who runs adult feminist storytelling walks in York.  I firmly believe the future is all about women creators coming together and championing each other’s work. This is how we take over!

What’s On in July

It’s the first week in July and we’re kicking off the month with our regular tours starting with Hex and the City tomorrow, Harlots, Strumpets and Tarts, Oh My! next Friday, followed by Sinners, Saints and Saviours on the Sunday then Votes for Women the following weekend. Full list of bookable tours below:

We are also running a private Suffragettes tour for the West End Women’s Institute this month. As always, if you’d like to enquire into booking one of our tours for a private event, please get in touch!

Vote, women (and men)!

So I’ll leave it there for now.  If you’re here in the UK, it’s time to vote! I know it’s a swamp out there and many of us have voter apathy as a result, but the above poster is just a reminder of how hard our foremothers and sisters fought to get the privilege to cast a vote.  Many of us pay taxes, so let’s make sure we exercise our right to decide how our money is spent.

Next week I’ll be back with July’s HERSTORY of the month. Without giving away who I’m profiling this month, let’s just say you wouldn’t want to AAAARRRRRRRgue with this one ;-)

Enjoy July. Lots of love
